TRB-PG.ASSIST. 2013-14: Marks awarded for erroneous TRB questions

Acting on the recommendations of subject experts, the Madras High Court (Madurai Bench) has awarded marks for erroneous questions to candidates of an examination conducted by the Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) for the post of Postgraduate Assistants on July 21 this year.
Justice S Nagamuthu, before whom writ petitions were filed seeking to award marks for erroneous questions, wrong key answers, incomplete questions and typography errors, sought the help of experts in the subject and disposed of the petitions.
A team comprising associate professors from Presidency College and Nandanam Government Arts College in Chennai had recommended awarding of marks for certain questions in the subjects of Science, Mathematics, Commerce and History. After obtaining the expert opinion, the judge cross-checked the facts with textbooks and awarded marks for erroneous questions. The judge and the experts found that for certain questions none of the options given as answers by the TRB were right. The TRB also agreed with the judge’s decision to grant marks for the said questions. The TRB also submitted that they were ready to delete questions which were incomplete or failed to convey the right meaning.
Justice Nagamuthu also rejected some claims of the petitioner for marks, where he found that the key answers were actually right contrary to the contention of the petitioners.
