Malala Yousafzai awarded 2013 International Children’s Peace Prize


Teenage activist Malala Yousafzai (Pakistan), shot in the head by a Taliban militant last October after campaigning for girls right to education, has won the prestigious International Children's Peace Prize, KidsRights announced on August 27, 2013.
The Pakistani 16-year-old will receive the award from 2011 Nobel Peace Prize winner and women's rights campaigner Tawakkol Karman at a glittering ceremony in The Hague on September 6, 2013.
Last year's (2012) International Children's Peace Prize winner was 13-year-old Cris Kesz Valdez (Philippines) for his work with Filipino street children while he himself was destitute.
The International Children’s Peace Prize is awarded annually to a child who has made a significant contribution to advocating children's rights and improving the situation of vulnerable children such as orphans, child labourers and children with HIV/AIDS.
